What it was like?!

Imagine any stadium that you have ever been in…., High School Football, a Professional Stadium, an Olympic Stadium. Now imagine it with a roof and enclose it to where you only have two sets of double doors at one end and four sets of double doors at the other end, this provides your only source of ventilation.

Now darken that area to where you can barely see (almost a haze) in the day light from the afore mentioned doors, night, six sets of diesel powered generators that have six lights each and not positioned for optimal viewing.

Ok, so let’s add to that an atmosphere that is 98 degrees on the outside and 110-120 on the inside. With a humidity factor in the 110 percent on the outside and 140 percent on the inside.

Add to that, no running water, no running sewage. Natural human body stench that would occur in a situation where no one has bathed in a couple of days. Add to that the decay of human flesh and off-gassing that happens to the deceased bodies around the area and the same for the deceased animals. On top of that the human & animal excrement the mold/mildew from the seating material being saturated with all these different types of fluids and those that were brought in by the breaking of the levees and all that accompanied that.

And you will have an idea, the slightest of an inkling, of what it was like inside the New Orleans Superdome.

Now imagine you are a survivor/victim of a catastrophic event such as a hurricane, a tornado, an earthquake or even a tsunami! And let’s not forget about terrorism! Now as a survivor, you have chosen not to prepare as you have been forewarned! And you find yourself in one of these facilities dealing with the environment. You should know that the environmental conditions are the least of your worries……..

The rapes……, they happened! The fights…., they happened! The hording of food and the stealing of food and water from women and children by full-grown adult men! This is what started the riot! That ultimately lead to a Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team & a complete National Guard Unit to perform an emergency evacuation of all their personnel! Yes, you heard right, a complete evacuation!

The conditions were so bad at one point that helicopter medical operations had to be halted while a U.S Army anti-sniper team performed surgical rifle assisted terminations of shooters whom were shooting at the aircraft. I can imagine, one of the worse days for those soldiers in their careers & especially because they had to perform that duty here, in the U.S. and under worst of conditions.

Unfortunately or fortunately (depending on your perspective) these people, whom were causing all of the havoc, were most likely not in their right mind. They likely, were mentally altered. Either due to a mental disability, drug use or lack there of, etc. And add to that, the fact that situation had been exacerbated by extreme conditions, dehydration, shock & insecurity about there future, and so forth. And what about those whom had all of this, and lost a loved one. So as you can imagine it was the worst case scenario!

It can……, and will happen again! It’s just a matter of when. What will you do? How will you prepared? Well, let’s give this some perspective. Take the devastation had by all that were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Change the hurricane to an earthquake (which also changes the timing: instead of a weeks notice, you get one) and spread it across the Bay Area. It would stretch from MontereyBay to almost Eureka in the north and out east as far as Sacramento, how’s that for a visual?!

So I ask you again: What will you do? How will you prepared?
